Buďte přítomni všichni nebeští géniové, toto místo vaší péči a ochraně svěřené braňte a  ochraňujte… (Gather here, all the genii of the Heavens, and protect and defend this place entrusted to your care)

(báseň z makovice – 1719)

Jan Dětřich  of Petřvald had the Buchlovice chateau built for his wife and through this gallant and generous gift he sent a message to future generations of the owners: Enjoy the Buchlovice chateau as a haven and a place full of peace and quiet and harmony.

And they received and respected the message. It was especially recognized by Leopold II Count Berchtold, who chiseled the modern shape of the chateau.

The European history knows Count Berchtold as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Habsburg Monarchy and as one of the movers of history, in his dearly beloved Buchlovice we can meet him as a husband, father and elegant host of a number of important persons. The chateau and its rooms, where ministers and ambassadors of lost empires met, represent the world where he spent the happiest moments of his remarkable life.

Every moment in history is related to various testimonies and evidence; however, intellectual and ethical qualities of humans are defined by works of art and personal belongings they choose to be surrounded with. Although these are silent witnesses, they may speak louder than a huge pile of archive documents.

Welcome to the Buchlovice chateau, where history was made, where the end of the old world was decided and where the past became the stage for the drama of the future.
